IE8 & Windows 7 outlast Safari & Macbook in Pwn2Own hacking competition
The 3rd annual Pwn2Own competition took place yesterday. It didn’t take long before security researcher Charlie Miller hacked into a fully patched Macbook through a security vulnerability in Apple’s Safari Browser. According to Neowin, the hack was accomplished by clicking on a link that took control of the machine. Charlie walked away with the MacBook and the $10,000 top prize for successfully hacking the Macbook in the fastest time.
“It took a couple of seconds. They clicked on the link and I took control of the machine,” Miller said moments after his accomplishment.
Moments later, another security researcher named Nils hacked into a Sony Vaio laptop running a fully updated Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8. Nils was also able to hack into Safari and Firefox later on during the day.
