SQL Data Services – Got Cloud Databases?

by Doug Holland (Intel) on Tuesday 10 March 2009

According to a blog post today from the SQL Data Services team, SQL Data Services will soon have support for many relational database concepts.

What is SQL Data Services?

SQL Data Services is based upon SQL Server technology and is designed to deliver highly-scalable distributed database services for the cloud.

SQL Data Services will now use the standard SQL Server network protocol, Tabular Data Stream (TDS) along with the existing query language, Transact-SQL (T-SQL).

According to Information Week, Microsoft plans to release more details about the pricing and availability of the Windows Azure platform within the coming weeks and the platform should be released before the end of the year.

If you’re thinking the Cloud isn’t going to affect you any time soon you might want to read my previous blog where I discuss how the current economy may accelerate the move towards Cloud Computing.
