New Windows 7 Upgrade Program Details
Back in December, TechARP released details on Microsoft’s “Windows 7 Upgrade Program”, which would allow Vista users to upgrade to Windows 7 for free if they purchased Vista during a certain time period. New details about the program were released detail, some which strongly suggest that we will be seeing Windows 7 in 2009.
The upgrade paths from Vista to Windows 7 will remain as follows:
- Windows Vista Home Premium Edition -> Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
- Windows Vista Business Edition -> Windows 7 Professional Edition
- Windows Vista Ultimate Edition -> Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
The eligibility period starts on July 1, 2009 and ends on January 31, 2010. The end date was previously not stated. Now that the period has been finalized, this may mean Microsoft is getting closer or possibly have already determined a release date for Windows 7.
There seems to be no limitation on whether you are upgrading from or to a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Upgrade installations will not be permitted if upgrading from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version and vice versa. When upgrading, both versions of Windows must be in the same language as well. You can take a look at the program’s full details at TechARP’s website.
