IPv6 security issues may be significant

IPv6 has security issues that sysadmins need to start thinking about, expert Van Hauser said at the Hack In The Box conference this week. Companies that aren’t using IPv6 networks still need to realize that modern versions of Unix and Windows Vista do support it, so that alone can create some issues. For example, IPv6 shares IPv4’s vulnerability to packet monitoring attacks, and even the use of IPSec will not solve all problems. IPv6 will arrive sooner than people realize, he added.

Hosted CRM vendors need new tack

Sales of hosted CRM software grew 60 percent in 2005, according to AMR Research, but that doesn’t mean the software is appropriate for all enterprises. It’s not always the cost-saver that it seems, but comparing hosted prices to traditional software pricing models can be complicated. Even when cost savings are realized, customers must weigh a host’s ability to minimize downtime with internal IT abilities and priorities. Another vital factor is service-level agreements–system downtime is one thing, but how about recovery time from lost data?
